Drenge

Finally an anecdote for the over-sentimental bullshit forever pervading my senses; Drenge’s raw guttural sound compliments the sentiment perfectly. The track from their soon to be released debut echoes the angst-ridden sound of already released tracks ‘Bloodsports’ and ‘Backwaters’, with singer Eoin’s deep drawl proclaiming “I found a bird on the floor it was covered in blood”, setting the morbid yet compelling tone. The track is loud, infectious and has the ability to overtake you; the type of guitar-heavy music that makes you want to go mental and let out everything that’s winding you up at the particular moment. The two brothers, Eoin and Rory, have already attracted attention from ex- Labour MP and campaign co-ordinator Tom Watson who of course you should listen to, him being the optimum of music-loving, anarchic youth. Unsurprisingly Drenge themselves were “not overjoyed”. Nevertheless they’re making an impact and are possibly one of my most anticipated bands of the festival season.

Drenge is out August 19 through Infectious Records.
