Norwich’s music scene is big. Being the only city(/town/place) for miles does have a few surprising benefits and the fantastic gigs are undeniably one of Norwich’s main selling points. When things get cold festivals move in off the muddy fields and take over cities. Returning for its fourth year, Norwich Sound + Vision is an excellent opportunity to not only check out a veritable myriad of bands but also as a chance to experience some of the very many lovely venues in this Fine City. There are far too many acts to mention so here’s a quick run down of some of the great goings on.
Ghostpoet @ Norwich Arts Centre
+ No Ceremony + Sullivan and Gold
Norwich Arts Centre is one of my favourite of the Norwich venues. It’s an ex-church and just beautiful. One of the most well known names at the festival, Ghostpoet will be performing on Friday night with support from No Ceremony and Sullivan and Gold. I predict this will be a busy one so get down early.

Halls @ The Assembly House
+ Mammal Hands + Wooden Arms
How many gigs have you gone to in a Georgian Grade I listed building? None? Well maybe you should. These bands all come under the ‘hauntingly beautiful’ umbrella. We love Wooden Arms for their harmonies; their piano; string solos; everything. And Mammal Hands have a bloody sax which is always a winner in my books.

Islet @ The Hog In Armour
+ Eagulls + God Damn + Royal Blood
Headlining the Artrocker stage at The Hog In Armour, Islet are a fantastic live event. If you haven’t seen them perform before I would recommend it, their big sound will fill the Hog and their stage presence is not something that should be missed.

Clare Maguire @ OPEN
+ Sivu + Pawws + Crushed Beaks + Fabienne
The ASL and Line Of Best Fit Showcase at OPEN looks like an absolute treat. Five bands, £7, with the added bonus of them all being smashing. We’re particularly excited for Pawws and Crushed Beaks.

San Cisco @ The Waterfront Studio
+ F.U.R.S + Bloody Knees
I sort of feel like these line ups speak for themselves, but if you’re unfamiliar with San Cisco they’re one of Australia’s best exports (after Bondi Rescue, obviously).

So, while individual gig prices start at just £5, for the frankly nominal fee of £40 you can pop in and out of venues across the city as much as you damn well please. £40 for four nights and as many bands as you can squeeze in? Sign us up. Just remember that some of the more popular events will sell out and venues still have to stick to their legal capacity so turn up early if there’s anything you don’t want to miss.
