I will always have time for the bloke whose hair I tried to rip off for most of my teenage years. Judging from this video, I’ll probably be spending the first couple of years of my twenties trying to do the same thing. ‘No One Lied’ is the first piece of material from Jack Penate since his 2009 LP Everything Is New. Apparently shot in one take at his London home by director Dani Castro, the track and video is a step away from the hedonism of his last album, offering just Jack and his guitar. It’s pretty bleak, but it’s got a really great sound that – whisper it – might take a little influence from the great Jeff Buckley. I’m excited for news of a new record, and I don’t really care if you’re not, because the man has cool hair. And cool tunes.
