The trio’s newest album is hard, messy, and sporadic, but that is what makes it so addicting. It is rough around the edges and clean all at once. Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything was released in 2011 and has made a tidle wave in the music scene. For this album Johnny Foreigner wrote about life and people they love and hate. When I listen to the album I feel like I am a part of all the madness that is their lives. The spontaneous racket makes you rage and scream, but it is too hard to turn off. It is brutal and beautiful all at once. Each song hooks you in and takes you on a trip through life and relationships.
The album starts off with, ‘If I’m The Most Famous Boy You’ve Fucked, Then Honey, Yr In Trouble’. What a pick to start out the album with. Great first song. It prepares you for the wonderful madness and brutal truth you are about to hear. Sadly Johnny Foreigner is not that popular in the States, but they were able to get to my ears. I am pretty glad they did! ‘You vs. Everything’ was the first song I had heard from the band and instantly I was hooked! Their music is like all the words and feelings we have all had. It is relatable because it is all the rage and feelings we never expressed. I think the honesty is why people like the music so much. That and the unique styles of music and vocals they throw around in their tunes.
Johnny Foreigner spent most of the years building up an unstoppable, obstreperous, underground fan base that is ready to take over. Johnny Foreigner has been closely followed by fellow indie Brit band, Los Campesinos! (I wish I could have seen that show!) Slowly but surely Johnny Foreigner has made their way to the top! Maybe soon they will even start coming to the United States more. Who knows… it could happen! Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything is a hard, messy, but beautiful 17 song album that never ends because you’ll find yourself starting it over and over. It’s a dynamite album.
