Liverpool plays host to the most pure psychedelic festival in England again this year, International Festival of Psychedelia. The organisers have become experts in the promotion of relatively obscure psyche acts from all over the world, and this year’s line-up serves to underline that. Exciting bands proficient in creating great shimmery music will arrive in late September from South America, Denmark, Germany and from all corners of the United States, not to mention the English groups headed by local boys Clinic. The other headlining acts for 2013 are Ty Segall’s new band Fuzz, Chileans The Holydrug Couple and New York duo Psychic Ills; and with The Wands and MMOSS lower down, quality runs deep. In addition to that, the Chicago label Troubled In Mind Records are to curate a stage along with countless DJs to keep the cosmic jamming ticking over – and these are just the first wave of acts to be announced.
The festival does not exclusively cater for music lovers alone though: visual art, film, performance and all manner of ‘mind expanding visual delights’ are planned to complement the trippy soundscapes – more details are to follow regarding these. This is all part of a cultural regeneration for Merseyside that began in the late Nineties and culminated in the European Capital of Culture award in 2008, a movement spearheaded by the likes of Camp and Furnace an organisation that helps to put on events such as these. Set to take place in Blade Factory, an old abandoned industrial warehouse deep in the old Baltic Triangle of Liverpool, this is a festival to look out for.
The two day event commences on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th September. Keep an eye out for updates for line-up updates; early bird weekend tickets are currently still on sale for £30 (without accommodation), with ticket plus accommodation in Hotel Indigo coming to £250. Go to the official website for more details. Here is a tasty appetiser from the Holydrug Couple.
