Today sees Biffy Clyro premiere the video for their latest single from Opposites, which recently became the trio’s first album to reach number one in the UK. Framed around the opening line (“Baby if you could would you go back to the start?”), Simon Neil takes on a Bill Murray circa Groundhog Day role. Sort of.
A phone call prompts Simon to get off his hotel bed. The events the follow are less than ideal for the frontman. Simon gets to punch threw a car window, push a guy in a swimming pool and generally be a nightmare hotel guest, before he’s confronted by chaps with baseball bats.
By the time the opening line repeats and punctuates what could be described as a fairly bad day, the premise becomes a bit obvious. And the only link to the lyrics seems to be those first lines.
On first watch it seems like Simon has taken this on as solo project (heavily aided, we assume, by Warner), but, as he storms past the swimming pool the first time, he walks past bandmate James Johnson who is chilling in the sunshine. In the second version of the second day, in the same place, you can see Ben. Interchangeable twins?
