Lana Del Rey has released the video for ‘National Anthem’ her latest single to be taken from her stunning debut album Born to Die. The 8 minute long video features A$AP Rocky as President John F. Kennedy, whilst Del Rey herself plays the parts of Marilyn Monroe and Jacqueline Onassis, wife of JFK.
Lana has described the video as “definitely the most beautiful thing” she has ever done. The video is kept true to life, with Del Rey and A$AP re-enacting home videos of the presidential couple, and ends with a dialogue from Del Rey as Jacqueline, describing the relationship between herself and JFK, following on from the Presidents assassination.
The track itself is just as splendid as the video. The lyrics equate money to love, sung in Del Rey’s inimitable tone, over a string section and hip-hop beats, which coalesces into a bittersweet melody, and featuring a chorus that can only be described as euphoric.
‘National Anthem’ is to be released on July 8th.
Del Rey and A$AP have worked together previously on the track ‘Ridin’ which is rumoured to be appearing on A$AP Rocky’s debut album, Long Live A$AP which will drop on September 11th
Lana Del Rey plays Latitude Festival in Suffolk on July 13th.
