Surreal kiwi Connan Mockasin returns with deets for the long awaited (for me) follow-up to 2011’s Forever Dolphin Love. Caramel comes out on Phantasy Sound on the 4th of November. Here are some of the lines given on the record company’s website about the new album:
Connan Mockasin returns with a new album! Caramel explores different regions of his galaxy, not just soul but a liquefied brew of blues, funk, ambient and folk with pronounced Oriental and Gallic timbres, all laced with an uncanny air of bliss…
This accompanies the streaming of a new song ‘I’m The Man, That Will Find You’. It’s a razor sharp update on the peculiar pop songs offered on Mockasin’s debut, with a clear debt to the funk and soul that the notes above indicate. ‘I’m The Man, That Will Find You’ takes the bass grooves and inflects them with typically off-kilter hooks and queasy guitar effects.
There are also a set of live dates that Mockasin and his eclectic cross-dressing band will be performing early next year:
22/01 – King Tuts, Glasgow
23/01 – Hare and Hounds, Birmingham
24/01 – Soup Kitchen, Manchester
25/01 – The Haunt, Brighton
28/01 – Shepherds Bush Empire, London
Here’s the song below and, for old time’s sake, the preposterous music video for ‘Forever Dolphin Love’.
