This generation’s Blues Brothers… The Black Keys. Their unique use of sound pushes them out of the background and their mysterious chill demeanor draws you into the low key edgy blues beats. The Black Keys mix the more classic styles of rock and roll, soul, blues and rockabilly to bring us their seventh album, El Camino. While staying true to their style, the boys are back; but this time they are coming with more energy and bigger beats.
Hit single ‘Lonely Boy’ is a stellar first track in the way it lures the listener in and sweeps you into the album. I’m not going to lie, I was a bit worried that after six albums the seventh would not be up to par with the others. But after listening to El Camino I was pulled into the smooth yet edgy garage tunes. It proved to be right up there with the others. Golden! It is on constant repeat! I like the fact that after having made so many hits they still have more to give.
Sometimes I wonder if they’re still the same ol’ boys from Ohio. The guys who dropped out of college and somehow managed to make a wave in the music ocean. Are they getting too big for their britches? They’ve proven they’re able to handle the pressure and constant demand from the public thus far. The world is craving more from the North American duo, so lets hope they keep the sweet music alive without compromising the independent free sound that draws us in with every riff.
