So the next few weeks will have me posting things that aren’t necessarily new, but quite frankly they need to be heard.
So this week I bring you a bit of Ed Sheeran. While it might be a touch commercial it’s always good when people give stuff a remix so that’s exactly what I bring to you today.
The A Team Remixes…. (There seems to be one for every day of the week)
The EP comes with the original & an acoustic version bundeled together with the delightful remixes. You can have a gander and buy it here if you’re that way inclined.
Koan Sound Remix
This is dubstep with a twist so don’t immediately assume its grimey, or filthy or anything related to Skrillex. This remix gives a chilled, cold twist to the original track. Koan Sound have magic powers and manage to put a huge slightly greezy bass line underneath, shuffly live crisp sounding drums, to carry Sheeran’s voice to the right places. The track has an anticipation to it with the synth coming in and out building up to the more intense sections. The good thing is that they have kept the guitar but also added strings; this more orchestral approach helps gives the track its big balls, but creates space as well, making it for me at least one for those frightfully long journey’s during the colder months.
Shy FX’s Ackee & Saltfish Remix
Now anyone who’s anyone, even if you don’t like Drum & Bass, should know Shy FX. He’s an unreal producer and an even better DJ. If you have the chance go see him DJ. Sickness I promise.
Now again before you get hasty this isn’t Drum & Bass, but a Reggae version of the track, which is personally my favouritist. So chilled but can act in the other way and get you buzzin’. Massive summer vibes on this, big drums, trumpets and subtle percussion make this like a cold drink on a hot day. Happy times when you’re on this one.
True Tiger Remix
True Tiger are a Dubstep record label. I’m not sure who exactly as part of the True Tiger crew was involved in this but they consist of Blue Bear, Sukh Knight and others.
This one more for dubhead’s, going more generic dubstep on this with the electronic production ditching the guitar and more sampling Sheeran’s voice. Slow moving big bass meeting big claps making this a step-to track. Though ambient pads, chime noises and I don’t know how to describe it – the do dil I do do – some form of like electronic pad piano type thing. You’ll know what I’m on about. But this is definitely the night time version. This is the one for pre drinks, getting ready for a large one.
Fred V’s Unofficial Remix
Now this last one isn’t on the EP but is too good not to post.
Liquid Drum & Bass fan’s this is one large unofficial, unreleased mix, only on Youtube. I have no idea if this is going to be let out by Freddy or not.
Now this is an all-rounder for whatever weather, whenever as a pick me up it does the job.
Fred V’s high standard of production here, with a nice reversed guitar/piano intro, as a Sheeran sample comes in it then kicks off, with a great drum pattern leaving space for the bouncy bassline. This is a head-bobber slash one that makes you wanna move. The guitar and piano are rearranged from the original version, allowing Sheeran’s voice to flow across the top, giving a top drum & bass flow.
Enjoi.
