Natasha Khan’s new single ‘Laura’ is the first to be released from her third album The Haunted Man which arrives in October, and comes complete with the revealing artwork for that upcoming record. Gone are the subtle synths and poppy hooks, to be replaced by some tender piano riffs and Khan’s wistful voice in this mournful ode to the metaphysical character of Laura. It signals the next step in her musical trajectory, reaching a maturity that pushes further and further away from the theatrical make-up and fantastical imagery that pervaded debut (and Mercury Prize-nominated) Fur And Gold and half of sophomore (and again Mercury Prize-nominated) Two Suns, though, of course, it must be noted that this is only the first track and may not be indicative of the work as a whole; we wait with baited breath for the next release.
The Haunted Man is out October 15 on Parlophone, while ‘Laura’ is available to download for all those who pre-order the release. The official video is below.
