I first fell in love with Daft Punk about twelve years ago so needless to say I was pretty excited when I heard rumours of their new album and eagerly awaited the first single to be released. I don’t usually like the word funky but I can’t think of a better way to describe ‘Get Lucky’. I was however a little confused when I first heard it and thought maybe I’d started playing a new Chromeo song by accident. It wasn’t till around two minutes in when the traditional daft punk beat started playing that I truly believed it was them. But despite these original doubts the song has grown and grown on me and now I can’t stop playing it which is lucky really cos I reckon it’ll be on absolutely everywhere this summer.
If that’s the case it’s gonna be a great few months for sexual health clinics, what with hundreds more people staying “up all night to get lucky”. So put this song on, stay “up all night till the sun”, and remember kids, use protection.
Get Lucky is out now by Columbia Records and already at number one in the UK singles charts. The album Random Access Memories is due to be released on the 20th May 2013.
