Rhode Island’s Deer Tick have a forthcoming single called ‘The Rock’ (out Aug 12). Frontman and chief songwriter John McCauley wrote the song following a string of shows with Two Gallants, declaring “I wanted to write something where I could scream kind of like how Adam [Stephens] screams”. It’s the first material to emerge from upcoming fifth album Negativity and ‘The Rock’ documents a breakup, as McCauley further confesses “The silly little metaphors in the song are ‘the rock’ which is the power to destroy your relationship, and ‘the window’ which is the relationship.”
Negativity is considered by the band to be the “evil twin” of their hotly received debut War Elephant and was produced by Steve Berlin (Los Lobos). It will be released in the UK on September 30 via Partisan Records.
